Frequently Asked Wine Aging Questions
How Long Should I Age My Wine?
Each Wine ages differently, and palates vary from person to person. Generally, white wines need less time to age than red wines do, due to the reds needing to develop their complexity and body. Since everyone’s tastes are different, we suggest that you try a bottle at varying times within the range to determine what works best for you! The following list is a general recommendation for aging times.
Gold Medallion Series: 2 Weeks to 3 Months
Premium Elite Series: 1 – 6 Months
Supreme Sterile Juice Series: 4 – 12 Months
Premium Unlimited Series: 6 – 12 Months
Vintner’s Select Series: 6 – 12 Months
The first number in the range is indicative of when the wine starts to become smoother and more palatable. The end time is NOT the shelf life, but the point that most of the aging process has completed, and aging the wine beyond this will provide diminishing returns.
What is the shelf life of my wine?
Due to our minimal use of sulphites (preservatives) most of our wines have a shelf life of 1 year after bottling, with up to two years for red wines. Red wines have a longer shelf life due to the presence of their natural preservatives (tannins) from being made with the grape skins and the addition of oak. If you wish to keep your wine for longer we recommend upgrading to our #9 Long Premium Corks.
